Getting Started with cPanel / WHM

A complete introduction to cPanel and WHM on your RemarkableCloud managed VPS: what each tool does, how to log in, and where to start.

cPanel is the world’s most widely used web hosting control panel. On a RemarkableCloud managed VPS you get two interfaces: WHM for server-level administration and cPanel for per-account website management.

WHM vs cPanel: what’s the difference?

Think of WHM as the landlord's office and cPanel as each tenant's apartment. You manage the building from WHM; your clients manage their own space from cPanel.
InterfaceURLWho uses itWhat it controls
WHMhttps://yourip:2087Server owner (you)Accounts, packages, server config, DNS, SSL
cPanelhttps://yourip:2083Hosting account holdersFiles, email, databases, domains, backups

You can access any cPanel account directly from WHM without knowing the account password: useful for troubleshooting client sites.

Logging into WHM

https://YOUR_SERVER_IP:2087

Log in with your root credentials or the reseller username from your RemarkableCloud welcome email. If you see a certificate warning, accept it: WHM uses a self-signed cert by default.

Once DNS is set up you can access WHM at `https://hostname.yourdomain.com:2087`: easier to remember and avoids IP changes after migrations.

Or from WHM → Account Information → List Accounts → click the cPanel icon next to any account to log in without a password.

First-time setup checklist

  • Run the Basic cPanel & WHM Setup wizard: WHM prompts you automatically on first login. Set your contact email, nameservers, and default IP.
  • Update nameservers: go to Server Configuration → Basic WebHost Manager Setup and set ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com.
  • Create a hosting package: go to Packages → Add a Package. Packages define disk, bandwidth, email, and database limits for each account.
  • Create your first account: go to Account Functions → Create a New Account.
  • Verify mail: check Email → Mail Server Configuration. RemarkableCloud pre-configures Exim and Dovecot.
  • Enable AutoSSL: go to SSL/TLS → Manage AutoSSL and enable for all domains. Every site gets free HTTPS automatically.
  • Key WHM sections

    Account management

    • Account Functions → Create a New Account: add hosting accounts
    • Account Information → List Accounts: view usage, suspend accounts, jump into any cPanel
    • Account Functions → Modify an Account: change quotas or packages

    DNS

    • DNS Functions → Edit DNS Zone: modify records for any hosted domain
    • DNS Functions → Add DNS Zone: add a zone for a new domain

    Server health

    • Server Status → Server Information: CPU, RAM, load, disk at a glance
    • Server Status → Service Status: verify Apache, MySQL, Exim are running
Your server is proactively monitored 24/7. If Apache crashes or disk fills up our team is alerted before you are.

    PHP version management

cPanel uses MultiPHP to set a different PHP version per domain:

    1. Go to Software → MultiPHP Manager
    2. Select the domain
    3. Choose PHP version (8.1, 8.2, or 8.3 recommended)
    4. Click Apply
PHP 7.4 no longer receives security patches. Use **WHM → MultiPHP Manager** to audit all accounts and upgrade any still on 7.4.

    CloudLinux resource limits

Your Cloud Cube runs CloudLinux, isolating each account in its own LVE (Lightweight Virtual Environment). Default limits:

    ResourceDefault
    CPU100% (1 core equivalent)
    RAM1024 MB
    Entry processes20
    I/O1024 KB/s

Adjust per account in WHM under CloudLinux → LVE Manager. See the CloudLinux limits guide.

    Common questions

Can I host multiple websites on one cPanel account? Yes: use Addon Domains in cPanel. Each gets its own document root inside public_html.

How do I transfer a site from another server? Use Transfers → Copy an Account from Another Server in WHM, or contact support: free migrations are included with every plan.
